| he Lagos State Government has commenced an enlightenment and sensitisation programme to educate the public, especially relations of staff in public schools, on the need to provide government with the right information for proper documentation of their benefits.
The Executive Secretary of Agege Local Government Education Authority, Mr Olalekan Majiyagbe, who stated this yesterday when addressing reporters on activities for the celebration of his 100 days in office, explained that the move would help the government to tackle ghost workers and curb the challenges of extortion and bribery among public officers.
Majiyagbe listed his administration’s contributions to the development of education in the local government to included the establishment of various reforms and restructuring.
He said this is to accommodate local content and ensure
that the three key elements of improved quality service, accountability and sustainable academic excellence in schools are maintained.
He noted that this has helped in human capacity building, quality assurance, prudent financial management, productivity, programme innovation, welfarism, and elimination of bureaucracy and the blockage of leakages in general administration.
He said: "We have provided free medical screening and drug support programme, emergency relief scheme for staff, introduction of monthly staff environmental sanitation and counseling of staff over maladaptive teachers."
Others include training and kitting of security guards, science, quiz exhibition and seminars for school counselors on clinical records.
He said the state invests so much on teachers because of its understanding that teachers’ welfare determines the kind of knowledge they impart to students.
He appealed to teachers to protect the facilities provided by government and ensure a good learning environment for students. - The Nation |
