WE’RE USING SPORTS TO IMPROVE THE COGNITIVE FUNCTION OF THE BRAIN- OKELOLA

There are great deals of benefits that come with students getting involved in sports because it improves the cognitive function of the brain. It also builds a team spirit, cooperation and peaceful co-existence. This was the assertion made by the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) Education District VI, Mrs Oludara Okelola at the just concluded maiden edition of the District’s sports festival at Jalisco Sports Ground, Bolade, Oshodi. She was ably represented at the festival by Mrs Bukola Aremu, Director Schools Support. She stated that competitive sports build teamwork, leadership and self-esteem. In her speech, the TG/PS made references to Noelle Hobbs, a sports writer’s assertion that, playing a competitive sports allows students to experience the feeling of winning and losing. According to him, when it comes to winning, they often learn not to gloat by shaking the hands of their opponents, complementing them on a good effort and then celebrating with their team mates. When
