SPELLING BEE (Secondary Category) 2014

The annual Spelling Bee, a prestigious competition among students of public secondary and primary schools was initiated in 2001 by the New Era Foundation under the able leadership of Senator Oluremi Tinubu OON, the former First Lady of Lagos State. The programme, however, was adopted by the Lagos State Ministry of Education in the year 2006 and has since been organized by the Ministry annually. The overall goal of the Spelling Bee is to provide a platform for competition and academic excellence among students in the State Public Schools while the specific objectives of the competition include the following: 1. Helping students/pupils improve their Spelling skills, increase their vocabulary and develop correct English usage. 2. Creating good reading habits that will lead to better academic performance. 3. Boosting the confidence of the participants with a view to preparing them for future endeavours.
