What has been happening
The Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) Competition brings together the world's brightest young scientists to encourage their continued interest in water and the environment. The annual competition is for students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions other than university, within the ages of 15 and 20 years from the 36 States of Nigeria and the F.C.T. Abuja. The National winner represents the country at the Annual International Final held during the World Water Week in Stockholm Sweden (SJWP). It is open for projects striving to improve water quality, water resources management, water protection, and waste water treatment as well as water education and social related aspects of water. Ajasa Kehinde and Obikoya Ayomide from Jakande Estate Comprehensive Senior College, on their project on Water Purification Project “NATRIFIER” took the first position across the 36 States of Nigeria. The NATRIFIER is a natural water purification project designed to help homes purify petroleum contaminated water for people living in the Niger Delta region. Reacting to these uncommon feat ,the Tutor General /Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) of Education District 1, Mrs Titilayo Solarin praised the duo, their teachers as well as their Principal for making the state proud, noting that the huge investment into the promotion of science and technology in schools across the state by the state government has started yielding results.
