School History
The Lagoon Secondary School is an all-girl's six-year institution founded in 1995 and run by a private Non-Governmental Organization - Nigerian Association for Women's Advancement (NAWA). Lagoon School Started in Surulere and has now moved to her permanent site in Lekki, Lagos. Construction work on the 3rd and 4th phase are on going. Students enter at the age of about 10 years and go through Junior Secondary 1 (JS1) through III (JS 3) (the equivalent of the American 7th-9th grades). The School offer 13 subjects. At the end of JS III, the students seat for two external examinations, the Junior School Certificate Examination (JSCE): that is conducted at the Federal level by the National Examination Council (NECO) and the one conducted at the State level by the Lagos State Examinations Board. (Private schools are under the State Government). They then have their Senior Secondary Education for another three years (SSI-III) (the American equivalent of 10th -12th grades). These senior years are spent preparing students for the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO). At the senior level, subjects are reduced to between 8 and 10. There are three compulsory subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Biology.
