School History
Sapphire Stones College was founded on September 22, 1997. The school opened with four teachers, one clerical staff, a cleaner and two students. The pioneer principal was Mr. Adenipekun Julius Olusesan. It started operations with the name “Sapphire Stones College”, this connotes “Precious gift and “qualitative education” which the college offers its students. The motto of the school “Knowledge Increases Strength” is also based on the school’s philosophical belief in education as a basic tool for growth and development in any given society. The school pledge was composed by Mr. O.L. James (a former staff of the school) and was learnt by all students at the assembly ground on January 3, 2004. Various teams of inspectors and officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Education were on several visits to the school on August 11, 2004, November 7, 2005, December 15, 2005, February 13, 2006 and November 13, 2006 as part of the pre-inspection, inspection and final approval process by the State Government. The Letter of Approval of the school by the State Government for WAEC and NECO Examinations was formerly given to the proprietress, Mrs J.I Akeredolu on December 5, 2006. Shortly after, on January 17 and January 31, 2007, Senior WAEC officials also came to inspect the school laboratories for WAEC approval. The school was finally given a letter of approval to conduct WAEC School Certificate Examinations by February 15, 2007. Shortly after on the 22nd of February, 2007, the school also received an approval letter to conduct NECO Senior School Certificate Examinations after an accreditation visit by a team of NECO officials. The proprietress finally received a letter of approval for WAEC GCE to take place in the college premises on July 11, 2007.
