School History
For long, Mr. Ayansola Isaac ‘Funso, the Founder of FUNAK Nursery and Primary School, who has passion for and has dedicated most part of his life to teaching, had been nursing the dream, and had been haunted by the drive to establish nursery/primary and secondary schools in Nigeria with a view to providing the crucial qualitative education for the Nigerian community in face of the precarious situation of poor government funding and the subsequent falling standard the educational sector was finding itself. This vision partly came into realization when on Monday, 21st September, 1998, Mr. Ayansola I.F. founded FUNAK International School, using a three-bedroom flat of a one-storey building located at 14, Simeon Oniyemofe Street, Adaloko; a suburb of Lagos, Lagos State. The Adaloko community then had neither a public nor private nursery/primary and secondary schools. No one! On 8th December 2003, when he went to register the name of the school with the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Alausa; the ministry officials advised that ‘International’ be expunged from the school name since there was no evidence that the school was affiliated to any institution outside Nigeria. This gave birth to ‘FUNAK Nursery and Primary School’, ‘FUNAK’ being an acronym. The school began to operate in October, 1998 with four (4) pupils and two (2) teaching staff including Mr. Ayansola himself. The pupils included three (3) boys and one (1) girl; all in the primary section. By the end of 1998/1999 academic session, the number of the pupils had increased to nine (9): seven (7) boys and two (2) girls, while the teaching staff increased to four (4). There was a tremendous numerical growth of pupils in the 1999/2000 academic session as a result of the appreciation of the quality of education provided by the school, as fifty-four (54) more pupils were registered including nursery pupils. This figure represents 600% growth rate over the 1998
